Hamish Reid Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Glasgow, UK Email: hamish (at) astro.gla.ac.uk Group 2 Contribution: I will discuss my work done with E. Kontar on non-thermal electron transport and coupled Langmuir wave generation from the Sun to the Earth. Langmuir wave generation alters the distribution of the electron beam and together with the background plasma inhomogeneity leads to a peak flux broken power law distribution. These electrons are responsible for type III radio bursts and are also detected in-situ near the Earth. There is a good possibility some of these events involve electrons accelerated by the same process which accelerates downwardly propagating electron beams, believed to be responsible for hard x-ray production in the solar corona.
