Working Group 2 Particle Acceleration Leader: A. Warmuth
The efficient acceleration of electrons and ions in solar flares is still one of the main unsolved problems in solar physics. In the recent years, HXR and gamma-ray observations by RHESSI have imposed a wide range of tight constraints on acceleration processes of electrons and ions in solar flares. How can theory cope with this wealth of data?
In this group, we want to pick things up where we left them last year at the RHESSI workshop in Potsdam. We will discuss both electron and ion acceleration, and consider both observations and theory. One aspect we will stress is how well the different acceleration models are able to fulfill the many constraints - temporal, spatial, spectral, and energetic - imposed by RHESSI, radio, and other data.
