October 5 2021:

There soon will be a call for PhDs with projects sponsored by companies; I would be supervisor for three of these projects, please read below for more details and feel free to email me directly (sorrentino at dima.unige.it) for more information.

Project 1. Bayesian approaches to uncertainty quantification for air quality monitoring

Sponsoring company: Bayesian Estimation for Engineering Solutions srl (newborn DIMA-UNIGE spinoff)

Abstract: The project will develop Monte Carlo methods for solving two estimation problems related to air quality monitoring: reconstruction of physical composition of atmospheric particulates, and tracking of polluting sources in dynamic environments through the use of largely distributed networks of low-cost sensors

Project 2. Reconstruction of atmospheric particulate from lidar data

Sponsoring company: Advanced Lidar Applications srl (Naples, IT)

Abstract: The project will develop and validate mathematical methods for reconstruction of optical parameters from lidar data, first, and then for further elaboration with the aim of characterizing the physical composition of atmospheric particulates.

Project 3.Machine learning methods for air quality monitoring with low-cost sensor networks

Sponsoring company: Physical Methods and Technologies for Environmental Needs srl (Genoa, IT)

Abstract: The project will develop and validate machine learning methods for on-line detection and tracking of polluting sources from low-cost sensor networks characterized by low signal-to-noise ratio.
