Algebraic statistics has been one of the fastest growing areas of statistics. The methods of algebraic geometry, commutative algebra and combinatorics proved to be useful in addressing various problems in statistics. The objective of this meeting is to get an overview of recent results and to initiate a broader discussion on possible directions in addressing large-scale problems, where geometric insight and algebraic tools help to construct sensible approximate solutions.
